TJ Ellis Checks In

TJ hanging out with good friend, Steven Murray.

Hey what up TJ Ellis checkin in!!!! So while I was in Colombia on Jan 5 for the Red Bull Upside down event at Alejandro Caro’s trails, we got to session some local spots, his backyard ramps and check out the Colombia scene.

The first day in town me, Brandon Dosch and Anthony Napolitan got to check out the local trails which were amazing, but unfortunately I looped out on a backflip and front flip the same day and stomped my foot down pretty hard both times.  I really didn’t think anything of it at the time. Fast forward to two days later and my leg started to cramp up really bad getting stiff with a really bad burning sensation in my whole right leg. This was happening during the practice session at Alejandro’s trails. I went to the hospital and they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with my foot and leg, so they just injected me with three different meds. About 10 hours later my right foot just completely dropped, so long story short I got home to see my doc and found out I had damaged the perennial nerve (which controls the upward movement of my ankle and toes). For about 5 weeks I was on crutches, then they allowed me to walk wearing an AFO, which is a plastic brace that holds my foot up 90 degrees. Since then, I’ve been doing therapy.

I’ve started back walking and thankfully, most of my feeling has been coming back over the past few weeks. What I am dealing with now is the feeling in my big toe is coming back slowly and is still really numb.  Matter a fact, I can’t even lift it up yet.

I’m now just able to pedal my bike again and started back pumping my local skate park on April 7th.  Here in the next few weeks I can start riding hard and putting in some long sessions. Right now it’s just all about trying to stay healthy and get ready for the RedBull Stomping Grounds event on May 15th.

TJ.
