When Alienation decides to design a new product, innovation is the top priority. An actual engineer with years of experience designing high-end bicycle retail parts calculates each product which leads to an attention to detail that is in fact so stringent that it sometimes hinders the products release date.

With our mission statement of innovation in mind may we present our newest Alienation product the Effects pedal. Our pedal is bridging the gap between racing and freestyle by keeping on the lighter side while not hampering strength. This “do it all” pedal is affordable and innovative all in one.

It starts with the spindle. Our spindle is one size smaller than most pedals, opting for a size 6 mm spindle aside from the normal 8 mm spindle. Manufactures have noticed that with a stronger metal we are able to save weight and space within the inside of the pedal while not hindering any strength. With this added pedal material around the spindle, it actually stiffens up the pedal and gives it a stronger feel. Rider testing has shown this hypothesis to be true. Bent pedals are few and far between!

Our next improvement in the Effects pedal is the concave or bending of the surface of the pedal. The normal concave for pedals has been fore/aft (North South), meaning the arch starts from the front ball of your foot and arcs back to level by the rear of the pedal, or into your heel. This is supposed to follow the natural form of your foot and has been the industry norm for years. Alienation has decided to add another set of support by offering a slight concave from East to West. If you look at your foot, it is not flat where the pedal hits the sides of your feet. We believe this added support will help keep the pedal under your foot and add comfort in a part that was considered unprogressable.

Our final angle on our Effects pedal is the full pedal knurling as well as extra pedal pins on the back half of your pedal, meaning there is absolute control with your feet while it’s in contact with the pedal. Visualize a side view of your foot on a pedal. When in the air, foot position on the pedal becomes imperative. The front of the foot is going to point the way while the back of the foot actually guides the bike where to go.

Imagine doing a 360. When you take off the lip of the jump you throw your head to the side and wait for your body to catch up. Now, analyze how your feet are on the pedals turning the rest of the bike along with your body. Your feet are actually controlling the back half of the bicycle. You want your feet to be able to bring the bicycle “up” in a tuck position and the Effects pedals are perfect for that. Alienation Effects pedal offers complete control and the most advanced plastic pedal in the market.

Besides the evolution inside the pedal, the Effects pedal looks pretty good too! It comes in black and white and a signature Dylan Stark edition is being made now with a gold axel and gold end cap. The true highlight of the pedal is the logo hit. It not only looks awesome but also works as a “support” so the can’t snap on the outer fringes. Years ago metal pedals had inserts made to replace the reflectors for added support. Our logo fills in where the weak spots would be and makes for one awesome looking pedal. One might also notice there are no silly reflector holes as these were designed and intended or aftermarket use only! The importance of a single square plot of concrete that makes or breaks lives is truly astounding. City planners have a much more important job than they realize. The difference between a baskeball court and a skatepark could be the difference between a promising career and fufilled life, or gang membership and drug problems. In no way am I saying basketball will get you into gangs but last time I checked they don’t have BMX in prison.

The above picture is of Alex Landeros and he is riding one of the most famous pieces of concrete ever poured. This place has produced over  35 professional BMX riders and still today has people flocking to the one horse college town of Greenville.
